ATK Mohun Bagan take on Bashundhara Kings in their second AFC Cup 2022 Group D match at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday, May 21.

Led by head coach Juan Ferrando, the Mariners began their AFC Cup 2022 campaign with a defeat as they went down 2-4 to fellow Indian team Gokulam Kerala.

Gokulam Kerala opened the scoring in the 50th minute thanks to Luka Majcen, but it didn’t take long for ATKMB to equalize as Pritam Kotal converted a Liston Colaco pass into a goal in the 53rd minute.

Kerala would go on to score two more goals to assert their dominance in the contest. After Liston Colaco netted ATK Mohun Bagan’s second goal in the 80th minute, Jithin M.S scored the fourth goal for Gokulam Kerala a minute before full time to round up a 4-2 win.

ATK Mohun Bagan have to win their remaining games if they are to maintain their hopes of qualifying for the inter-zone playoff semi-finals. Only one team from Group D will make it to the next round.

Bashundhara Kings, on the other hand, are coming off a hard-fought 1-0 win against Maziya.

A 33rd-minute strike from forward Nuha Marong settled the contest against a Maziya side that enjoyed 58 per cent possession and registered 471 passes as compared to the Kings’ 42 per cent possession and 344 passes.
