The sixth season of Abu Dhabi T10 is all set to get underway on November 23, 2022. All the matches of the campaign will be held at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi UAE. The 10-overs-per-side tournament will continue till December 4.
The eight participating teams are Delhi Bulls, Team Abu Dhabi, Northern Warriors, Bangla Tigers, Deccan Gladiators, Chennai Braves, Morrisville Samp Army and New York Strikers. Bangla Tigers will face New York Striker in the competition’s curtain raiser.
Two new teams will make their debut this year, namely Morrisville Samp Army and New York Strikers.
Each side will consist of one “icon player”, who is deemed as the most valued player in the team. However, for a given team, the icon and the captain can be two separate players.
Deccan Gladiators are the defending champions, beating Delhi Bulls by 56 runs in 2021 final, held in November-December last year. The Gladiators will be up against Team Abu Dhabi on the opening day of the Abu Dhabi T10 2022 edition.
There are 33 matches overall. The eight teams will face each other once in a round-robin format through the course of the competition.
The top four teams will progress to the playoffs, followed by the final, which will take place on December 4, 2022.
While Bangla Tigers’ Hazratullah Zazai finished as the top run-scorer in the last edition with 353 runs, Wanindu Hasaranga took 21 wickets to guide Deccan Gladiators to their maiden championship.
Several top-notch players like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Liam Livingstone and Dwayne Bravo among many others have featured in the tournament since its inception in 2017.
Talking about the upcoming edition, four former Indian cricketers have signed up for the Abu Dhabi T10 2022. Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, S Sreesanth and Abhimanyu Mithun will play for Deccan Gladiators, Delhi Bulls, Bangla Tigers and Northern Warriors, respectively.
