Portugal vs Bosnia, UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers - watch LIVE in India

The Portugal national football team will return to action this weekend when they face Bosnia and Herzegovina in their Group J UEFA European Championship qualifiers 2024. The match will start at 12:15 AM IST on Sunday, June 18 at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

The Portuguese side has made a great start to their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying campaign under new head coach Roberto Martinez.

They beat Liechtenstein 4-0 in their first Group J encounter and followed it up with a 6-0 triumph over Luxembourg to sit on top of the group with six points, 10 goals scored and none conceded.

Ranked 9th in the FIFA rankings, Portugal will be heavy favourites to win this contest by getting the better of a Bosnian side that’s ranked 58th.

Portugal will have a strong pool of players to call upon. They have the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix, and Goncalo Ramos spearheading their attack while also boasting creative talents like Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

Their defence looks pretty settled as well with the experienced Pepe, Ruben Dias, and Diogo Dalot among a few of the top defenders in the team.

Bosnia, on the other hand, finds themselves third in Group J with one win and a loss so far. They beat Iceland 3-0 but fell short against Slovakia courtesy of a 0-2 scoreline.

Needless to say, they are likely to have their backs against the walls when they face a star-studded Portuguese outfit and will need their experienced players like Miralem Pjanic and Eden Dzeko to stand up and be counted.

As far as head-to-head is concerned, Portugal has played Bosnia four times and won thrice while drawing the other contest.

FIFA World Cup 2022: Know who joins France, Brazil, Portugal in round of 16 at Qatar

The ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 has steadily gained momentum and is approaching its business end of the group phase. The 32 teams are divided into eight groups, with each group having four teams.

All sides play against the other three teams in their groups once. The top two nations from each group advance to the round of 16.

With two match days in each group done, it’s all to play for the teams who find themselves in a tricky situation as far as their progression chances are concerned.

Talking about the Round of 16 qualifications, three nations out of the 32 have guaranteed their spot in the knockouts so far.

The first side to do so was the France national football team from Group D, who bettered the ‘World Cup champions curse’ with two wins out of two to qualify for the last 16.

Les Bleus convincingly defeated Australia 4-1 to start their campaign on a positive note before overcoming Denmark 2-1 to ensure a smooth passage into the next round.

Moreover, the 4-1 win also saw veteran striker Olivier Giroud score a record-equalling brace for the French side. He now needs just one more goal to surpass former striker Thierry Henry, who holds the record for most goals scored (51) for France.

A draw for the defending champions in the final group fixture against Tunisia would be enough to top the group.

Brazil national football team became the second side to confirm their Round of 16 spot. The Selecao saw off Serbia and Switzerland to make it through from Group G.

Meanwhile, Portugal became the third nation to qualify for the knockouts with a 2-0 win over Uruguay after defeating Ghana 3-2 in the opener.

Germany were eliminated from the group stage for the second straight World Cup after finishing third in Group E.

Portugal look to book FIFA World Cup 2022 knockouts spot with win vs Uruguay - watch live in India

Portugal will square off against Uruguay in their second encounter of the FIFA World Cup 2022 Group H on November 29 at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail, Qatar. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:30 AM Indian Standard Time (IST).

The Portugal national football team began their quest for the maiden World Cup title with an entertaining 3-2 win over Ghana.

After a goalless first half, Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, becoming the first men’s player to score in five consecutive World Cups in the process.

The lead, however, was short-lived as Ghana striker Andre Ayew equalised eight minutes later only for the Portuguese attackers Joao Felix and Rafael Leao to put Portugal 3-1 ahead shortly after.

The clash was all set for an exciting finish after substitute Osman Bukari pulled one back for Ghana in the 89th minute. Nonetheless, following 11 minutes of extra time, the scoreline remained unchanged and the World no. 9 team walked away with a victory.

As far as the Uruguay national football team is concerned, they played out a goalless draw against South Korea in their first match of the tournament.

There weren’t many clear-cut chances for both the teams, although La Celeste hit the post twice in either half through captain Diego Godin and Federico Valverde.

Uruguay now face Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal, who will look to go all out for three points to boost their chances for a Round of 16 berth.

The two-time champions need a win to have an edge over other group members in hope of a knockouts berth.

Portugal vs Uruguay head-to-head

The two teams have faced each other on just three instances in the past.

While Portugal won a friendly match 3-0 way back in 1966, Uruguay ended the Fernando Santos-led side’s dream of a first World Cup title by winning 2-1 in the 2018 edition’s Round of 16.

The other match, which took place in July 1972, ended in a 1-1 draw.

Czech Republic will lock horns with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on Matchday 5 of the UEFA Nations League 2022-23 League A at the Sinobo Stadium, Prague. The match is scheduled to start at 12:15 AM IST on Sunday, September 25.

Both the teams are vying for the top spot in Group 2 of UEFA Nations League A, which is currently held by Spain.

As things stand, the Portugal football team is placed second in the group with seven points from four games whereas Czech Republic are third with four points from as many games.

It’s a must-win game for the Czech Republic as a victory for Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. will strengthen their chances of qualifying for the knockouts, while bringing an end to the hosts’ season.

Taking into account recent form, Czech Republic have won just four of their last 10 matches in all competitions. Moreover, they lost their last two UEFA Nations League A matches to Spain and Portugal by identical scorelines of 0-2.

Portugal, on the other hand, have won six of the last 10 matches in all competitions. They started their UEFA Nations League campaign with a draw against Spain and followed up with convincing wins over Switzerland and Czech Republic.

However, they missed out on a chance to claim the top spot as they lost to Switzerland in the reverse fixture.

Ahead of this encounter, Czech Republic will bank on their strong goal-scoring record at home in the UEFA Nations League. Silhavy's side has scored in every home game since the tournament’s inception, a record that Portugal’s defence would be wary of.

Czech Republic vs Portugal head-to-head record
