The ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2023 commenced on January 14. The batters have embraced the challenges of the tricky South African pitches and run-scoring has been in full flow. The two-week-long tournament concludes on January 29.

Australia’s Claire Moore, who represents Sydney Sixers in the WBBL, smashed a steady 52 in the opening match of the tournament against Bangladesh. Thanks to that knock, Moore staked her claim early on in the top run-scorers list in this edition.

Meanwhile, Indian opener Shweta Sehrawat scored the most runs in the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2023. England's Grace Scrivens and India's Shafali Verma completed the top three.

India’s vice-captain Sehrawat opened her account for the tournament with a smashing 57-ball 92 against South Africa. The Delhi-based opener scored another fifty in India’s second match. She was named the captain of the side for the five-match series against New Zealand in the build-up to this event. Sehrawat is known for her Virender Sehwag-style of batting.

Verma, who has been a mainstay in the senior Women’s T20I side, has also shown glimpses of her swashbuckling self. The 18-year-old batter from Haryana has already played more than 50 T20 international matches since her debut in September 2019, scoring in excess of 1,200 runs at a brisk rate of 134.53.

Vishmi Gunaratne and Dewmi Vihanga from Sri Lanka are also in the running after impressive performances in the initial league-stage matches. Both players are highly regarded and form the backbone of the Lankan batting lineup.

Bangladesh, who have upstaged a couple of teams this edition, also have top talents like Afia Prottasha, Dilara Akter and Shorna Akter with their names in the hat. Pakistan's Eyman Fatima also made her way into the top 10.

The inaugural edition of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup which features 16 teams divided into four groups of four, consists of 41 matches, including the league stage, Super Six, semi-finals and the final.
