The Serie A 2022-23 season will kick off on Saturday, August 13, with Sampdoria facing Atalanta at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

At the same time, defending champions AC Milan open their title defence at the San Siro against Udinese.

Owing to 2022 being the World Cup year, the Italian league will go on a brief break between November and December.

Hence, the last matchday before the World Cup will be played on November 13 with the league then slated to resume on January 4, 2023.

A total of 20 teams will compete in Serie A 2022-23, with  Lecce, Cremonese and Monza being the newly promoted sides. It is worth noting that Monza will be playing Italian top-flight football for the first time in their history.

AC Milan, who have won 19 Serie A titles, have made four additions to their team roster, with Charles De Ketelaere their most recent recruit.

The other significant transfers include Alessandro Florenzi joining on a permanent deal from AS Roma and Divock Origi arriving on a free transfer from Liverpool.

Juventus will look to challenge for a 37th Scudetto in the upcoming Serie A campaign. The arrivals of Paul Pogba, Angel di Maria, Bremer, Andrea Cambiaso and Federico Chiesa (permanent transfer) will boost Bianconeri’s chances of winning the league title for the first time since 2019-20.

The likes of Inter Milan, AS Roma, Napoli and Lazio will look to give AC Milan and Juventus a tough fight for the title this term.

Meanwhile, the dates for the biggest club rivalry in Serie A, the Milan derby, between AC Milan and Inter Milan are September 3, 2022, and February 5, 2023.
