Matchday 3 of the UEFA Nations League 2022-23 will see England host Italy at the Molineux Stadium in the early hours of Sunday, June 12. The match will kick off at 12:15 AM IST.

England are certain to miss the services of 24-year-old defender James Justin, while the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Fikayo Tomori are doubtful for this contest. Furthermore, while there are no suspensions, they will hope Phil Foden will return a negative COVID-19 test in time. Until then, one can expect him to miss out too.

For Italy, they have decided to release Andrea Belotti and Leonardo Bonucci from the squad, meaning that the duo will not feature against England and Germany.

England vs Italy recent form

Unlike Italy, England are yet to win a match in the UEFA Nations League this term. The team started off with a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Hungary on matchday 1 and followed it up with a 1-1 draw against Germany. Before that, however, they had won four of their last five matches. During this time, the team scored 21 goals while conceding just twice.

Italy, on the other hand, are coming on the back of a 2-1 win over Hungary. Roberto Mancini’s men have also played Germany, but the match ended without a winner, with the teams settling for a 1-1 draw.

England vs Italy head-to-head

Despite their rich footballing history, England and Italy have played just 28 matches against each other in the past. During these outings, England have managed just eight victories while Italy have come out on top on 12 occasions. As many as eight matches have been drawn.

Interestingly, England haven’t won a competitive match against Italy since 1997. Between 1997 and 2022, the two teams have played a total of 11 matches and England have won just two while Italy have won six.

England vs Italy prediction and football betting tips for UEFA Nations League 2022-23

There is no denying the fact that Italy have been the better side against England in the past. At the same time, however, one cannot discount the team’s ongoing struggle. Furthermore, with two key men already out of the fixture, Italy are certain to have a difficult time in a rather unfamiliar territory.

Judging by their recent run of form, it’s no surprise that England are the odds on favourites.
