Defending champions Mohun Bagan will lock horns with arch-rivals East Bengal in the first Kolkata derby of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season at the iconic Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday, February 3.

Under manager Antonio López Habas, Mohun Bagan will aim to bounce back and avenge the defeat to East Bengal in the recently-concluded Kalinga Super Cup.
Despite having assembled one of the strongest squads in the ISL, the Mariners have struggled with injuries and form in the ongoing edition.
With six wins, one draw and three defeats, Mohun Bagan are currently placed fifth in the ISL 2023-24 standings with 19 points from 10 matches.
On the other hand, East Bengal will head into the derby brimming with confidence after clinching the Kalinga Super Cup and thereby ending their 12-year title drought.
Led by head coach Carles Cuadrat, the Red and Gold Brigade have been unbeaten in their last 10 matches across all competitions. Their last defeat came against Kerala Blasters in November.
However, East Bengal have had a disappointing ISL campaign so far. Having registered just two wins in 10 matches, they are currently placed eighth in the ISL 2023-24 standings with 11 points.
Furthermore, East Bengal will miss the services of their star midfielder Souvik Chakrabarti due to suspension.
Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan have received a massive boost with the return of Finnish midfielder Joni Kauko.
Going by their recent ISL head-to-head record, Mohun Bagan will still start as favourites in Saturday’s Kolkata derby.

The last time these two sides met in the Kolkata derby, East Bengal beat Mohun Bagan 3-1 in a Kalinga Super Cup 2024 group match at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha in January.
