The FIFA World Cup 2022 Final Draw will be held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, Qatar on Friday, April 1.

The process will take place a day after 28 direct qualified teams out of the 32 FIFA World Cup 2022 qualified teams are finalised following the final round of CONCACAF qualifiers.

Here is a guide to the general procedure that is followed for a football World Cup Draw.

How are teams seeded in the FIFA World Cup 2022 Final Draw?

The seeding process for the FIFA World Cup 2022 Final Draw is based on the FIFA World Rankings for teams and is as follows:

Pot 1: Hosts Qatar and teams ranked 1-7

Pot 2: Teams ranked 8-15

Pot 3: Teams ranked 16-23

Pot 4: Teams ranked 24-28 and three placeholders - two winners of intercontinental play-offs and winner of UEFA play-off

What is the procedure followed in the FIFA World Cup 2022 Final Draw?

The FIFA World Cup 2022 Final Draw will see the 32 participating countries divided into four team pots of eight qualified teams each.

Besides the four team pots, there are eight group pots (Group A - Group H). Each group pot will have four balls to determine the starting position of teams in the group.

The draw will begin with Pot 1, where hosts Qatar will fill up the top position in Group A to play the opening fixture of the tournament. Qatar will have a different coloured ball to signify this, and it will be drawn first.

The remaining teams in Pot 1 will then be drawn and allocated one each across Groups B to Group H. Every team placed in Groups B to H from Pot 1 will start as the top-ranked team.

The process is implied similarly for Pots 2, 3 and 4. Each team pot is drawn entirely before moving on to the next pot.

What are the constraints in the FIFA World Cup 2022 Final Draw?

In the FIFA World Cup 2022 Final Draw, no group will have more than one team from the same confederation.

In the case of UEFA teams, a maximum of two teams are allowed in five groups out of eight given the allocated number for European teams at the World Cup is 13.

The initial rule will be applied to the teams coming from the inter-confederation playoff paths, which feature ties of nations from two confederations.

The inter-confederation playoffs matchups will be as this: AFC team vs CONMEBOL team and CONCACAF team vs OFC team
