Legendary Italian footballer Silvio Piola is the record holder for the most goals in Serie A history.

Having made his Serie A debut for Italian club Pro Vercelli against Bologna on February 16, 1930, Silvio Piola netted 274 goals in 537 appearances.

Considered to be one of the greatest strikers of his generation, the Robbio-born footballer also donned the jerseys of Lazio, Juventus and Novara in Serie A.

Interestingly, Piola is the only player to have the accolade of being the all-time top-scorer of three different clubs in Serie A. He scored 57 goals for Pro Vercelli, netted 143 strikes for Lazio and bagged 70 goals for Novara. The Italian striker also scored 10 goals for Juventus in the top-tier Italian league.

The Italian striker finished as the Serie A top goalscorer during the 1936-37 and 1942-43 seasons.

Piola finished his illustrious career with a staggering 682 goals including the strikes in the friendlies.

Former AS Roma forward Francesco Totti is second on the list for the most goals in Serie A.

Since making his first Serie A appearance for Roma at the age of 16, the Italian talisman scored 250 goals in 619 appearances in the country's top division football league.

Totti spent his entire career at Roma and won the Serie A title once in the 2000-01 season.

Former Swedish striker Gunnar Nordahl is the all-time top non-Italian goalscorer in Serie A history and third overall.

Having played for AC Milan and AS Roma between 1949 and 1958, Nordahl netted 225 Serie A goals in 291 appearances. The prolific striker scored 250 goals for Milan in the Serie A while he bagged 15 goals for Roma.

Italy’s Giuseppe Meazza and José Altafini of Brazil complete the top five list.

Representing the likes of Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus in Serie A, Meazza scored 216 goals in 367 appearances.

On the other hand, José Altafini netted 216 times in 459 appearances in Serie A. The Brazilian forward scored 120 goals for Milan, netted 71 strikes for Napoli and managed 25 goals for Juventus.

Italian footballers Antonio Di Natale and Roberto Baggio are the two other forwards to score more than 200 goals in Serie A.
