So that is it from this game. West Indies take on the winner of the Australia vs Afghanistan game for the fifth place playoff. While South Africa take on the loser of that game for the 7th place playoff. Till then cheers and take care!

West Indies skipper, Kimani Melius starts by saying credit must be given to the boys for playing well. Adds that they tried to change their plans by bowling straight and that worked for them. Mentions that on any given day they would like to chase 143. Melius says that the wicket played a bit slow in the second innings and that made their task a bit difficult. He says that the boys, especially Matthew Patrick showed how to play on such wicket.

South African skipper, Bryce Parsons says that they needed at least 220 on this wicket. Adds that they struggled a lot against spin. Mentions the boys did not show a lot of character. Parsons also says that there was variable bounce which hampered their batting as they failed to adjust to it. On being asked about the bowling he adds that the plan was to pick up quick wickets. Parsons gives credit to the bowlers for bowling well and also credits West Indies batters for applying themselves and adjusting well to the pitch.

Matthew Patrick is adjudged as the Man Of The Match. He says they were quite disappointed with their performance against New Zealand in their last match. Adds that he is feeling good for today's win. Mentions that he bowled according to the plan and there was spin on this wicket. He also adds that the wicket was a bit slow while batting.

Earlier in the day after winning the toss and opting to bat on a greenish track would always have posed a challenge and the South African batsmen failed to accept the challenge there. They threw their starts and failed to read the pitch which resulted in their downfall. With just 143 on board it was always a challenge for the bowlers to defend. They started really well and that brought some hope of a South African victory but it soon vanished as West Indies soon ate up the score slowly and steadily. In the end, South Africa came second courtesy some poor and irresponsible batting from their top order. Levert Manje was the only one who showed some grit and kept the West Indies bowlers at bay.

Chasing 144 for victory was looking to be a simple one for the West Indies but it was not to be. They started on a bad note to lose a wicket in the first over itself and then lost another one too inside the first 5 overs. A steady stand between Kimani Melius and Kirk Mckenzie brought the innings on track but departure of the skipper at a crucial juncture pushed them on the back foot. The run flow dried up and also they failed to clear the fence in the middle overs. Another association between Matthew Patrick and Antonio Morris revived the innings as they kept their cool and played patiently. They rotated the strike and played a lot of dot balls. They just ensured that they occupy the crease for a longer time which helped them to cross the winning line.

So, the writing was on the wall as soon as West Indies were slotted to play against South Africa for the 5th place playoff. Not a cakewalk but one would say a comprehensive victory for the team from the Carribean islands. They outplayed their opposition in all the departments.
