So, that will be it from this match. ADAM ZAMPA has been named the MAN OF THE MATCH for his excellent bowling performance. The reigning champions are on a run of six consecutive defeats now while the Stars have won 3 matches on the bounce. On 5th January 2020, we have a double-header where first the Sydney Sixers take on the Adelaide Strikers at 1840 Local (0740 GMT). The second match of the day will be contested between Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes. The second match starts in Perth at 1840 Local (1040 GMT). Do join us for those clashes. Till then, cheers and take care!

Coming to the turning point of the match, it was the fantastic tag-team catch by Nathan Coulter-Nile and Ben Dunk to send Shaun Marsh packing. At that stage, it looked like the Renegades would easily get to a score of 160-170 but they were pegged back superbly by Zampa and Lamichhane. That catch started the collapse from 117/2 to 140/9 and the visitors never recovered.

Coming to the bowling department, Sutherland and Boyce kept the run-scoring under check but to defend these kinds of totals, one needs wickets at regular intervals but that didn't happen. Daniel Christian also dropped Stoinis on 18 and that did not help their cause at all. Richardson and Gleeson each got a wicket but were too expensive. In the end, such a low total did not give the Renegades' bowlers any chance.

The run chase started brilliantly for the Stars as Stoinis and Maddinson laid the foundation with a blazing start. After the dismissal of Nic and Ben Dunk, Maxwell stepped in and the skipper ensured that no more wickets fell. Stoinis was the architect of the chase as he made his 9th BBL half ton. He hit the bowlers all over the park in the Powerplay and then rotated the strike consistently along with skipper Maxwell who also played a well-compiled innings of 40 runs.

The Stars were on top right from the start of the run chase and they have convincingly completed the job, with 7 balls remaining and their two star batters remaining unbeaten.

2 18.5
Richard Gleeson to Marcus Stoinis

Full ball on middle, Stoinis has pushed that one down to wide long on and the batters take a couple. That will be enough for the Stars to take the game as they WIN THE MATCH BY 8 WICKETS.

1 18.4
Richard Gleeson to Glenn Maxwell

Back of a length ball down the leg side, Stoinis pulls down the fine leg region for a single.

Seagulls are back! Stop everything and admire their presence.

1 18.3
Richard Gleeson to Marcus Stoinis

On the pads, Stoinis has worked it towards square leg for one. The Stars now need 3 runs to win.

1 18.2
Richard Gleeson to Glenn Maxwell

Too full in length on middle, driven down the ground to long on for a run.
