So, what does this match mean for the BBL? The Melbourne Stars move to 2nd place on the points table, 1 point behind the Adelaide Strikers. New Year's eve will see the Adelaide Strikers host the Sydney Thunder. Do join us for that game on 31st December, 1840 Local (0810 GMT). Till then, cheers and take care!

Hobart Hurricanes started the second innings brilliantly as James Faulkner dismissed Nic Maddinson and Nick Larkin off consecutive balls in the first over to set up a tantalising match. Handscomb and Stoinis stitched a 50-run stand to calm the nerves of the away side. One might say that the turning point in this match was the 5 wides given away by Qais Ahmad as the Hurricanes eventually lost by 4 runs. However, it is a game of ifs and buts and no one can be sure of what could have been. The rain came down heavily in the 8th over and the umpires then decided to declare the win for the Melbourne Stars as they were 4 runs ahead of the par score.

The Hurricanes almost never gave themselves a chance to stay in the game as they managed to score just 69 runs in 11 overs. That too came courtesy of a George Bailey flourish in the end. The DLS method came into play and pushed the target to 80 runs, giving them something to defend.

Nathan Coulter-Nile has been named the Man of the Match for his very good bowling figures of 2/14 from his 2 overs. Coulter-Nile says that it is good to take wickets early on in the game. Tells even though it is a shortened game due to rain, it was important to pick wickets at the top. On being asked how well Dale Steyn is settling in the game, Nathan Coulter-Nile says he has been a very good addition to the side.

Both the captains and the umpires are out in the middle. The umpires are having a word with the Third umpire on the mic. And they have decided that will be the end of the game. Not a happy ending for the home side as the Melbourne Stars are ahead as per the DLS par score and they take 2 very crucial points.

Marcus Stoinis is caught down for a quick chat. He says that he is okay after being hit on the helmet. Laughs and says it was louder in the head than it sounded in the cameras. Jokes that if he says something wrong they will think that he is concussed. Adds that they are in front at the moment so he is happy.

It is raining again and at the moment, the Stars are 4 runs ahead of the par score. And that might be very crucial as the players are jogging off the field. Actually only the batters have jogged off. The Hurricanes are still out there, hopeful of the game to begin.

0 7.3
Riley Meredith to Peter Handscomb

Back of a length ball on middle and off, defended off the back foot by Handscomb.

The skipper, the Big Show, Glenn Maxwell walks out to bat. His side are on the driver's seat and in front.

W 7.2
Riley Meredith to Marcus Stoinis

OUT! That is a very good catch! The ploy to give Meredith the 3rd initially seemed the wrong thing but he has given the visitors the wicket they needed. Not sure if the shot was needed from Stoinis having got a boundary on the first ball. Meredith once again bangs it short but this is closer to the body. Stoinis looks to heave it but his bat turns in the hand. It goes towards long on where Miller runs to his left and takes a sliding catch. Hobart still keeping themselves in the game but by just. They need 25 in 22.
