The T20 World Cup 2024 is headed towards its business end as eight teams will advance to the Super 8 stage from the group stage.

As many as 20 teams participated in the T20 World Cup for the first time after the marquee ICC tournament was expanded from 16 teams in the previous edition hosted by Australia in 2022.

These participating teams were divided into four groups of five teams each held in the West Indies and the United States. 

Group A has India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and USA, while Group B features England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, and Oman.

New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea are placed in Group C, whereas Group D has the likes of South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, and Nepal.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Stage.

As per the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 format, these qualified teams will be further split into two groups of four teams each.

T20 World Cup Super 8 Group 1 will feature group winners from A and C along with runners up from B and D.

On the other hand, the group winners from B and D will join runners up from A and C in the T20 World Cup Super 8 Group 2.

T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 qualified teams

South Africa

South Africa became the first team to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage.

The Proteas secured their place in the T20 World Cup Super 8 after the match between Sri Lanka and Nepal was abandoned due to rain.

Having already registered victories over Sri Lanka, the Netherlands and Bangladesh, South Africa are currently placed top of the Group D standings with six points from three games. They are scheduled to face Nepal in their final group match on June 14.

Australia

ODI World Cup champions Australia have also confirmed their spot in the T20 World Cup Super 8 stage.

With three wins in as many matches in the ongoing T20 World Cup, Australia are currently placed at the top of the Group B standings with six points from three matches.

The Mitchell Marsh-led Australia have already defeated Oman, England and Namibia in the T20 World Cup 2024. The 2021 T20 World Cup winners will take on Scotland in their final Group B match.

India

The Indian cricket team became the third team to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage after they defeated the United States by seven wickets in a low-scoring encounter at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Led by Rohit Sharma, India are currently placed at the top of the Group A standings with six points from three matches. The Men in Blue earlier beat Ireland and arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

India are scheduled to play Canada in their final group match at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida on June 15.

West Indies

Co-hosts West Indies became the fourth team to qualify for the Super 8 stage after they beat New Zealand by 13 runs in Match 26 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The Windies set the Kiwis a 150-run target to chase in the game and restricted them to 136/9 to pick up their third win of the tournament and advance to the Super 8 stage. 

Afghanistan

Afghanistan became the fifth team to qualify for the Super 8 stage of T20 World Cup 2024 after beating PNG by seven wickets in Match 29 of the tournament. The win ensured their progress to the next round and also eliminated New Zealand in the process. 

Meanwhile, Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies are the eight seeded teams for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage as announced by the ICC prior to the tournament.

United States

Co-hosts United States became the sixth team to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage after their game against Ireland was abandoned without a ball being balled due to rain.

With five points from four games, the USA qualified as the second-placed in Group A behind India with six points. Last edition's finalist Pakistan, on the other hand, have been knocked out from Group A after securing just two points from three matches. 

England

Defending champions England qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage after arch-rivals Australia defeated Scotland by five wickets in their Group B match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.

With Australia's victory, England pipped Scotland on better net run-rate to qualify as the second-placed team in Group B with five points from four games.

Earlier, England defeated Namibia by 41 runs in a 10-over game at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. 

Meanwhile, Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies are the eight seeded teams for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage as announced by the ICC prior to the tournament.

Should they advance from the group stage, they will be placed in predetermined positions, regardless of whether they finish first or second in their group. 

On the other hand, if an unseeded team advances to the Super 8 stage at the expense of a seeded team, they will be directly replaced in the T20 World Cup Super 8 group.

The T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Stage will start on June 19 and conclude on June 25 (as per IST). The top two teams from the Super 8 stage will progress to the semi-finals.

The winners of the two semi-finals will clash in the T20 World Cup 2024 final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29.
