MS Dhoni will look to right the wrongs from Chennai’s campaign opener against Delhi, when his team takes on Punjab in the eighth match of the Indian T20 League on April 16, Friday, at the Wankhede Stadium.
Team Chennai’s massive seven-wicket defeat on the second day of the season saw its bowlers struggling to check runs as Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan rampaged their way on to a smooth victory. Dhoni would hope it doesn’t repeat against yet another batting-heavy side in Punjab.
Punjab rode on the brilliant knocks of KL Rahul, Chris Gayle and Deepak Hooda to post a mammoth target against Rajasthan last Monday, and while they had trouble defending the score, Punjab eventually crossed over the line with a four-wicket win.
The only bit of encouragement for Chennai has been the return of Suresh Raina, who scored a half-century to bring his team out of deep waters against Delhi after an early top-order collapse.
Though momentum is firmly on Punjab's side, Team Chennai lead in head-to-head with 14 wins and 9 losses in 23 encounters between them. However, when it comes to the sides' record at the Wankhede Stadium, there is little separating them. While Chennai have played at the venue 15 times and won seven of those matches, Punjab have secured six victories in their 12 matches there.
