The Asia Cup 2023 started on August 30 and will run till September 17 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the Asia Cup 2023 is being contested by six teams as they compete in a total of 13 One Day Internationals (ODIs) over two weeks.
The ongoing cricket continental championship is the first Asia Cup to be held in multiple countries. As per the Asia Cup 2023 schedule, Pakistan will host four matches, while the remaining nine games will be played in Sri Lanka.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are the six teams that are competing for the Asia Cup 2023 title.
The six participating teams are divided into two groups of three teams each in the 16th edition of the Asia Cup. Group A features Pakistan, India and Nepal, while Group B comprises Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four. From thereon, the top two teams in the standings after all the Super Four matches will lock horns in the final.
Some of the world's leading batters including the likes of Babar Azam, Virat Kohli, Imam-ul-Haq, Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Fakhar Zaman, Mushfiqur Rahim, Pathum Nissanka and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are featuring in Asia Cup 2023.
Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Babar Azam slammed the first hundred of Asia Cup 2023 against Nepal at the Multan Cricket Stadium in the tournament opener.
Batting at his usual number three position, Azam scored 151 off 131 balls to power Pakistan to 342/6 in their 50 overs. His brilliant knock included 14 fours and four sixes. Pakistan later bowled out Nepal for 104 in 23.4 overs to register a 238-run victory.
Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya holds the record for the most runs in Asia Cup (ODI) history, having amassed 1,220 runs in 25 matches between 1990 and 2008.
