Madhya Pradesh will lock horns with Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2022 final at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru starting on Wednesday, June 22. 

Led by Aditya Srivastava, Madhya Pradesh defeated Bengal by 174 runs in the semi-final to storm into Ranji Trophy final for the first time since the 1998-99 season. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh topped Elite A Group before thrashing Punjab by 10 wickets in the quarter-final.

On the other hand, Mumbai reached the Ranji Trophy final after beating Uttar Pradesh in the other semi-final on the basis of a first innings lead.

Prithvi Shaw-led Mumbai had earlier created history as they hammered Uttarakhand by 725 runs in the quarter-final to record the biggest win in First Class cricket by runs. Mumbai broke the previous record that was set by New South Wales in 1930, securing a massive 685-run victory over Queensland. Mumbai also topped Elite D Group with 16 points from three matches.

Mumbai are the most successful team in Ranji Trophy history, having won the title a record 41 times. Under former captain Aditya Tare, Mumbai last won the Ranji Trophy title in the 2015-16 season, beating Saurashtra by an innings and 21 runs in the final.

Sarfaraz Khan has been the standout batter for Mumbai in the ongoing edition of Ranji Trophy, amassing 803 runs in five matches at a staggering average of 133.83. He has scored three hundreds and two fifties so far. Meanwhile, Rajat Patidar has been the highest run-getter for Madhya Pradesh, scoring 506 runs in five matches at an average of 72.28. He has hit one century and five fifties so far.

In the bowling department, Mumbai left-arm spinner Shams Mulani has been the leading wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy 2022, picking 37 wickets in five matches at an average of 14.59. For Madhya Pradesh, Kumar Kartikeya has been the pick of the bowlers in the ongoing edition. The left-arm wrist-spinner has bagged 27 wickets in five matches and boasts an economy of 1.92.

While Madhya Pradesh will eye their maiden Ranji Trophy, Mumbai will start as favourites to clinch their 42nd title in Bengaluru.
