The Indian women’s cricket team will square off against Barbados in a virtual knockout fixture at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham at Commonwealth Games 2022 on Wednesday, August 3. The match will start at 10:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
While reigning T20 world champions Australia Women have already qualified for the semi-finals after winning their Group A fixtures against India and Barbados, the winner of the upcoming India-Barbados match will seal the other semi-finals spot from Group A.
Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, India bounced back strongly from their defeat against mighty Australia in their opening fixture at CWG 2022 to thrash arch-rivals Pakistan by eight wickets in their second match.
After the marquee clash was reduced to 18 overs a side due to rain, Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof won the toss and elected to bat first. However, Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals after a decent start as they went from 50/1 to 99 all out.
In reply, swashbuckling opener Smiriti Mandhana smashed an unbeaten 63 off 42 balls to guide India to a thumping victory.
On the other hand, Barbados suffered a nine-wicket hammering against Australia in their previous fixture.
Opting to bowl first, Australia skittled out Barbados for 64 in their allotted 20 overs.
In response, captain Meg Lanning’s unbeaten 21-ball 36 and Alyssa Healy’s 23 not out powered Australia to the semi-finals of the CWG 2022 cricket event.
Interestingly, Hayley Matthews-led Barbados earlier stunned Pakistan with a 15-run win in their opening fixture of the competition.
Both India and Barbados have two points from as many games in Group A and need to win on Wednesday in order to book their place in the semi-finals.
