India will open their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, October 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The two teams will clash in the Super 12 stages of Group 2, their first high-octane clash after a five-year hiatus.

The subcontinental rivals have engaged in some intense edge-of-the-seat thrillers and intense finishes over the course of years in the shortest format of the game.

India boast of a flawless 4-0 record over Pakistan at the T20 World Cups in five meetings, with the last victory coming in the 2016 edition where India won by six wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. One match was tied which was later decided by a bowl out in India’s favour in 2007.

The T20 World Cup rivalry between the two nations dates back to 2007 when a young Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led India defeated Pakistan by 5 runs in the inaugural edition.

In the lead-up to their opening match, India won both their matches against England and Australia, respectively, while Pakistan defeated West Indies but lost out to South Africa in a last-ball finish in their respective warm-up schedules.

India will be led by the modern great Virat Kohli who is on his last captaincy assignment with the national team, while Pakistan will be helmed by the sensational Babar Azam.
