The Indian women’s cricket team will lock horns with hosts England in the first semi-final of the Women’s T20 cricket event at Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday, August 6. The match will start at 3:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India Women thrashed Barbados Women by 100 runs in their final Group A fixture to storm into the semi-finals of the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 event at the Commonwealth Games.

The Women in Blue started their CWG 2022 campaign with a heartbreaking three-wicket defeat against mighty Australia before bouncing back to hammer arch-rivals Pakistan by eight wickets. With two wins and one loss, India finished second in the Group A standings with four points from three matches to book their place in the last four.

On the other hand, England Women qualified for the semi-finals after winning all their three matches to top Group B with six points from three matches. The hosts beat Sri Lanka, South Africa and New Zealand to set-up a mouth-watering semi-final against India at Edgbaston Cricket Ground.

However, England will miss the services of their captain Heather Knight, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing CWG with a hip injury.

In the absence of their regular captain, all-rounder Nat Sciver captained England in their three group matches in the quadrennial multi-sport event so far.

Meanwhile, India fast bowler Renuka Singh has been the leading wicket-taker at CWG 2022 so far, having picked nine wickets in three matches at an economy of just four runs per over.

In the batting department, swashbuckling opener batter Shefali Verma has been the standout player, having amassed 107 runs in three group matches.

In the other semi-final, reigning T20 world champions Australia will square off against trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand on Saturday.

The winners of the respective semi-finals will compete for the gold medal on Sunday while the losers will clash for the bronze medal on the same day.

All the remaining matches including the final will be played at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham.
