T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 groups: Know how ICC decided the team seedings

After the conclusion of the group stage, the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage will start on June 19 in the West Indies.

The line-up for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage was completed on Monday morning after Bangladesh defeated Nepal by 21 runs in their final Group D fixture at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent.

As per the format, the top two teams from each group have qualified for the T20 World Cup Super 8 stage.

India (Group A), United States (Group A), Australia (Group B), England (Group B), Afghanistan (Group C), West Indies (Group C), South Africa (Group D) and Bangladesh (Group D) will battle it out for the four T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final spots.

These eight remaining teams have been divided into two groups of four teams each. Each team will play the other three sides in their group once in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

How Super 8 groups will be decided in T20 World Cup 2024

The T20 World Cup Super 8 groups were decided based on pre-tournament seedings assigned to respective teams of all four groups by the International Cricket Council (ICC) prior to the marquee event.

In case, the respected team failed to qualify for the Super 8, the next-best team in the group claimed the seeding automatically.

As announced by the ICC before the start of the tournament, Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies were the eight seeded teams for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage.

The T20 World Cup 2024 seeding system was introduced by the ICC to help the fans schedule their travel for the high-profile tournament in the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 groups were decided based on the pre-tournament seedings.

However, the likes of Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage from their respective groups. 

As a result, other teams which finished in the top two in their groups replaced them.

As per the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Groups, the likes of India, Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are placed in Group 1 while the United States, England, West Indies and South Africa are clubbed in Group 2.

The T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Stage will be played across four venues in the West Indies.

Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, Barbados’ Kensington Oval and Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown will stage all T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 matches.
