The Bangladesh national cricket team will host Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series starting on Friday, March 22.
The upcoming series is part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
As per the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Tests 2024 schedule, the first match will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The two teams will then travel to Chattogram for the second Test to be hosted at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium from March 30.
Currently ranked ninth in the ICC men’s team rankings, Bangladesh last featured in a Test series against New Zealand at home in December. The two-match series ended in a 1-1 draw.
With one win and one loss, Bangladesh are placed fourth in the WTC 2023-25 standings with a point percentage of 50.
Ahead of the first Test, the hosts have announced their 15-member squad to be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto.
Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has returned to the Test squad after missing the New Zealand Test series due to paternity leave.
Young pacers Nahid Rana and Mushfik Hasan have received their maiden national call-ups.
However, Bangladesh will miss the services of the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim, who has been ruled out due to a fractured right thumb.
On the other hand, the Sri Lanka national cricket team will aim to bounce back after suffering a 1-2 defeat in the three-match ODI series. They earlier won the T20I series 2-1.
The visitors have named a strong 17-member Test squad to be captained by Dhananjaya De Silva.
Star leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga also came out of Test retirement and was named in the squad. However, ICC later handed him a two-match Test ban for violating article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct. As a result, he will miss the Test series.
Meanwhile, the tourists have also recalled pacer Lahiru Kumara and added uncapped off-spinner Nishan Peiris in the Sri Lankan Test squad.
Ranked eighth in the ICC men’s team rankings, Sri Lanka thrashed Afghanistan by 10 wickets in their previous Test match in Colombo in February.
Having lost their both Test matches against Pakistan in the ongoing WTC, Sri Lanka are languishing at the bottom of the standings.
