The Australian men’s cricket team will host West Indies in a two-match Test series starting on Wednesday, January 17.

As per the Australia vs West Indies Tests 2024 schedule, the first match will be played at the Adelaide Oval from January 17-21. The two teams will later travel to Brisbane to play the second Test at The Gabba from January 25-29.

The world’s top-ranked Test side Australia will head into the series high on confidence after thrashing Pakistan 3-0 in the recently-concluded three-match Test series.

Having registered five wins, two losses and one draw, the World Test Championship holders Australia are placed at the top of the WTC 2023-25 standings with 54 points.

Meanwhile, the hosts have announced their 13-member squad to be led by captain Pat Cummins.

Matt Renshaw has returned to the Australian Test squad to replace the retired David Warner.

Despite Matt Renshaw’s inclusion, former captain Steve Smith has been confirmed as Australia’s new Test opener.

Fast bowler Scott Boland has also been included in the Test squad after he was released ahead of the Sydney Test against Pakistan in order to participate in the Big Bash League 2023-24.

On the other hand, the West Indies cricket team has named a new-look 15-man Test squad for the upcoming two-match series.

Led by captain Kraigg Brathwaite, as many as seven uncapped players have been included in the West Indies Test squad.

Batter Zachary McCaskie, wicket-keeper Tevin Imlach, all-rounders Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge and Kevin Sinclair, fast bowlers Akeem Jordan and Shamar Joseph are the seven new faces added to the squad.

Pacer Alzarri Joseph has also been appointed as the new vice-captain of the West Indies’ Test team.

Ranked eighth in the ICC men's Test rankings, West Indies are currently placed seventh in the WTC 2023-25 standings with four points.

Australia vs West Indies head-to-head in Test cricket

Australia hold a dominant head-to-head record against West Indies in Test cricket, winning 60 of the 118 matches played between these two teams. West Indies have registered 32 victories while as many as 25 matches have ended in draws. One match ended in a tie.

The last time these two sides met, Australia secured a 2-0 Test series win over West Indies at home in December 2022.
