The Indian cricket team’s brand new jersey for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 was unveiled on Wednesday, October 13. The jersey was launched by MPL Sports, the official kit sponsor for the Indian cricket team. The kit has been named ‘Billion Cheers Jersey.’

"This is the first time in the history of Indian cricket that fans have been memorialised on a jersey. It carries their chants and cheers from iconic past matches, transformed into unique soundwave patterns," stated MPL Sports in a release.

The new jersey with shades of prussian and royal blue is made of a polyester jacquard product with comfort and super-fast moisture-absorbent qualities. It has three stars on top of the BCCI logo that represent the three World Cup wins for India; two in the ODI format in 1983 and 2011 and one in the T20 format in 2007.

The retro navy blue jersey from the 1992 World Cup that the Indian team has been sporting since November 2020 will be replaced by the brand new jersey.

“The Indian cricket team enjoys support not just in India but around the world and there is no better way to celebrate their excitement and energy than through this jersey,” BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said in a statement.

The Indian cricket team’s jerseys have maintained its identity since 1985 when the first coloured jersey was donned in the 1985 Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket.

Virat Kohli and Co. will first don the new jersey in a practice game against South Africa on October 18.

Although the Indian team has named a 15-member squad along with three reserves for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the deadline for submitting the final squad to the International Cricket Council (ICC) is October 15.
