That said, let’s dive into the list of the top five players who have shone with the bat and amassed a record number of runs.

Most runs in Indian T20 League

Virat Kohli sits firmly on top of the pile as the player with the most runs in Indian T20 League. The former Bangalore captain has amassed 6,283 runs in 207 matches and is best remembered for his exploits in the 2016 edition, where he scored a whopping 973 runs at an average of 81.08, which included four tons and seven half-centuries.

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan is by far the most prolific opening batter in the Indian T20 League, having accounted for 5,377 runs across spells for four different franchises (Delhi, Mumbai, Deccan and Hyderabad). In 192 matches, the southpaw has scored 5,784 runs at an average of 34.84.

Rohit Sharma

The most successful captain of the Indian T20 League sits third in the list with 5,611 runs from 213 matches. With only a solitary century to his name, which dates back to 2012, the Mumbai captain has scored at an average of 31.17 (the lowest in the list of five).

Suresh Raina

There is no denying the fact that Suresh Raina is a T20 legend. Raina has accumulated 5,528 runs in 205 innings at an average of 32.52 and is best remembered as one of the greatest finishers who always rescued Team Chennai in crunch situations.

David Warner

The Australia opener has played 11 out of 15 Indian T20 League seasons and enters as the leading overseas run-getter in the tournament’s history. Warner is the only player to score 500-plus runs in six successive campaigns between 2014 and 2020 and is best known for winning the Orange Cap thrice (2015, 2017 and 2019). In 150 matches, Warner has accumulated 5,449 runs at an average of 41.60 and 50 half-centuries to his name, the most by any batter in the Indian T20 League.
