Indian shooters Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Sanjeev Rajput will be in action in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Monday, August 2.

This event will be the last shooting competition at the Tokyo Olympics.

While Sanjeev Rajput has qualified for the Olympics for the third time after Beijing 2008 and London 2012, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar will make his debut in the quadrennial event.

World no. 6 Sanjeev secured his Olympic quota for the men's 50m rifle 3 positions event at the ISSF World Cup in Rio, Brazil in 2019. The 40-year-old had failed to qualify for the final in his previous two Olympic appearances and he will look to bag a medal on his third attempt.

On the other hand, current world no. 2 Aishwary won his quota at the 2019 Asian Shooting Championship in Doha, Qatar.

The 20-year-old heads into the Summer Games in great form after he won a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi earlier this year. Aishwary had also qualified for the final at the ISSF World Cup in Osijek, Croatia.

The Indian duo will face a tough challenge from the likes of world no. 1 Istvan Peni of Hungary, Rio 2016 silver-medallist Sergey Kamenskiy and Ukraine’s Serhiy Kulish.

Consisting of three positions - kneeling, prone and standing - the 50m rifle 3 positions event requires every shooter to fire 40 shots from each of the three positions in the qualification round.

The top eight shooters in qualification will advance to the final, where they must shoot a further 15 shots in kneeling, 15 shots in prone and 10 shots in standing position.
