Pakistan beats Bangladesh by 11 runs, sets up India final

Sportsadda-26-SEP-Article-2

Pakistan pulled off a stunning comeback in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. They beat Bangladesh by 11 runs. The win sets up a tense final with India on Sunday, September 28.

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field. They struck fast, and Pakistan lost five wickets for 49 runs. Taskin Ahmed led the attack, taking three key wickets and keeping Pakistan under pressure in the first 10 overs.

Pakistan bounced back with strong lower-order hits. Mohammad Haris scored 31, Mohammad Nawaz 25, and Shaheen Afridi 19. This pushed the total score to 135 for 8 in 20 overs.

Bangladesh looked set for victory but faltered under pressure. Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf never let them settle, making tight bowls and crucial wickets. In the end, Bangladesh finished 124 for 9, short of 11 runs. Pakistan’s win books a final against India, setting up a fierce clash.

Pakistan edge Sri Lanka in Super Four thriller at Abu Dhabi

Sportsadda-24-SEP-Article-3

Pakistan scraped past Sri Lanka by five wickets in a tense Super Four clash at Abu Dhabi on September 23. Choosing to bowl first, they held Sri Lanka to 133/8. Shaheen Shah Afridi led the charge, taking 3/28. Sri Lanka began well, posting 53 in the powerplay. However, they lost three key wickets early, which slowed their push.

Kamindu Mendis tried to steady the innings with 50, but wickets fell at a steady clip. Asalanka and Shanaka fell in back-to-back deliveries, stopping any late surge. Shaheen trapped Mendis in the penultimate over, ending Sri Lanka’s chance of a strong finish.

Chasing 134, Pakistan began well but fell to 80/5. They lost four wickets in 17 balls. A 58-run stand between Hussain Talat and Mohammad Nawaz steadied the chase. That shifted the target from 26 off 24 balls to just 14 off 18, before Nawaz’s three sixes sealed the chase with two overs left. This helped Pakistan reach the target with two overs to spare.

The win keeps Pakistan in the race for the Asia Cup final. Sri Lanka now faces a difficult path after two Super Four losses. India and Bangladesh, both unbeaten, clash in Dubai on September 24. The top two teams will meet in Sunday’s final.

Imran Khan lashes out at cricket board after back-to-back losses

Sportsadda-23-SEP-Article-2

Jailed former Prime Minister and ex-cricketer Imran Khan lashes out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the team lost twice to India in the Asia Cup. He said Pakistan had little chance to win with the board running the way it is.

Khan mocked the management, saying the only way to beat India was if PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Army Chief General Asim Munir walked out as openers, with top judges and election chiefs as umpires. His sister Aleema Khan said he made the joke after she told him about the defeats.

The 1992 World Cup-winning captain blamed Naqvi for the fall of Pakistan cricket. He pointed to weak leadership and favouritism as the main reasons. He also claimed that General Munir meddled in the 2024 elections, affecting his party’s win.

His words show his anger at the state of Pakistan cricket and the wider political dispute.

Kuldeep leads as India defeats Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025

Sportsadda-15-SEP-Article-2

India’s spinners set the tone in Dubai, winning against Pakistan by seven wickets in the Asia Cup 2025. The chase ended with 25 balls to spare, a clear sign of control and pace.

Pakistan chose to bat, but Kuldeep Yadav struck hard. The left-arm wrist spinner ripped through key batters, taking 3-18 in four overs. Axar Patel gave strong support, holding a line with 2-18. Pakistan could only crawl to 127-9 in 20 overs.

For Kuldeep Yadav, this clash was a key moment. It added to his strong run in the tournament, following his match-winning spell against Oman in the opener.

Kuldeep spoke calmly, sharing how he shaped his game, saying, 'I just try to keep things simple and execute the plans I have.' He explained that he focuses on who’s at the crease, their strong shots, and how they score. This allows him to shift his line or pace. The 30-year-old's sharp play earned him Player of the Match.

Abhishek Sharma also lit the game up early, hammering 31 from 13 balls with four fours and two sixes. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav then held firm, striking an unbeaten 47 off 37. His calm touch steered India to 131-3 in 15.5 overs, sealing the win with ease.

Afghanistan bounce back with a big win over Hong Kong

Sportsadda-10-SEP-Article-3

Afghanistan hit back fast in the Asia Cup after a tough loss to Pakistan in the tri-series final. They faced Hong Kong less than 48 hours later. Pakistan had five days to rest, but Afghanistan had to shake off defeat quickly. Any slip could have ended their run early in a group with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The beginning was tense. Just four balls in, Sediqullah Atal edged a Shukla delivery to slip. It echoed Afghanistan’s collapse, bowled out for 66 in their last game.

Luck shifted when captain Yasim Murtaza dropped a key catch, letting Atal seize control. He stayed unbeaten on 73 off 52 balls, driving Afghanistan to 188, with 34 runs above the ground’s usual first-innings mark.

Coach Jonathan Trott called the match pivotal, noting the team’s mixed play and some luck with dropped catches. He saw the win as positive amid a hectic schedule but stressed the team still fell short of its potential. Afghanistan now aims to sharpen their game for the remaining group matches.

How ready is Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup?

Sportsadda_7_AUG_Article-4

Pakistan's build-up to the upcoming Asia Cup has sparked considerable debate, especially following their recent defeat plus victory combo, which left fans and analysts questioning their actual form.

With the tournament starting in September, pressure is mounting on whether this squad is truly ready to face Asia’s best. Here’s a closer look at the cricket team’s current situation:

Recent match results

Their last match left fans wondering whether they still have it or not since their second game with West Indies left them defeated by a narrow two wickets. However, both Day 1 and Day 3 proved they still have the guts to earn victory against their opponents. As a result, this gave fans, analysts, and enthusiasts the hope that Pakistan is still in their highest form.

Looking back at the results, some would say that the West Indies only got ‘lucky’ having only two wickets ahead of the team. Most would say yes, but the credit still goes to the team’s hard work. Despite that, Pakistan’s Day 1 performance is more than impressive, scoring 178/6. Their Day 3 victory—their most recent win—is enough evidence as they bagged 189/4.

The top players of the team

The Pakistan Cricket Board will soon announce its squad for the T20I tri-nation series and Asia Cup 2025. Despite Fakhar Zaman’s injury, there’s been no official talk of Babar Azam’s return, though both remain top players in the country.

Babar Azam

With 128 matches played under his belt and an astounding 4,223 runs scored, Babar can be one of Team Pakistan’s cards. He resigned as a captain because he wanted to lessen his workload. Babar prefers to be a player and focus on his batting skills. Currently, his batting average is at 39.83, which proves that he can be one of Pakistan’s main weapons for the upcoming Asia Cup.

Fakhar Zaman

Zaman is a close second to the top T20I player, as his experience of 97 matches vets his skill. He also managed to earn 1,949 runs in his short time in the field. However, he is currently suffering from a hamstring injury that has ruled him out for the rest of the match against the West Indies. He returned home to Pakistan on August 4, and hopefully, he'll be back before the Asia Cup.

Recent statements

Captain Salman Ali Agha expressed confidence in Pakistan’s readiness for the upcoming Asia Cup despite a narrow two-wicket loss to the West Indies on Day 2 and a close victory on Day 3. He praised the team’s bowling and fielding, particularly the spinners, but acknowledged weaknesses in the powerplay batting and death bowling that still need improvement.

Kaushal Silva named Hong Kong coach for Asia Cup 2025

Sportsadda_29_JULY_Article-1

Former Sri Lanka Test cricketer Kaushal Silva has been named the new head coach of the Hong Kong men’s cricket team, marking his debut in charge of an international side. The appointment comes just weeks before their Asia Cup 2025 T20I campaign, which begins with their opening match against Afghanistan on September 9 in the UAE.

The 39-year-old played 39 Tests for Sri Lanka between 2011 and 2018. He made his mark in first-class cricket as a leading wicketkeeper-opener, scoring 13,932 runs and 41 centuries. Since he retired in 2019, he has gained coaching experience in Sri Lanka, England, and Australia.

Cricket Hong Kong chairperson Burji Shroff said Silva’s hiring aligns with the board’s plan to grow local talent and make the team more competitive. Silva also expressed his goal to instil a strong work ethic and winning mindset while identifying young talent for long-term development.

Hong Kong recently secured a runner-up finish at the Asia-Pacific Cricket Champions Trophy in Singapore and now faces a challenging Group B in the Asia Cup. The tournament, scheduled from September 9 to 28, will feature eight teams competing in T20I format.

The group line-up is as follows:

Group A:

Group B:

While Hong Kong prepares for a tough Group B campaign, one of the tournament’s key fixtures is the potential for up to three clashes between defending champions India and arch-rivals Pakistan, including a possible final.
