The Tokyo Olympics 2020 will start from July 24, Saturday, with over 100 Indian athletes qualifying for the Games across 16 different sports, including the men’s and women’s hockey teams.

While the most prominent names from the Indian contingent will understandably be Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu and London Olympics bronze medallist Mary Kom, numerous promising names have also made it to Tokyo this time.

In Aquatics, India will have male swimmers Sajan Prakash and Srihari Nataraj qualifying in 200m butterfly and 100m backstroke events. The third swimmer from India is Maana Patel, who became India’s first female swimmer to qualify for the Summer Games. She will compete in the 100m backstroke event.

Indian archery’s four-member strong contingent will be led by Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari, who will compete in the men’s and women’s individual recurve events. Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav are the two others who will compete in the men’s recurve event and form the men’s team.

While Dutee Chand and Neeraj Chopra have led the headlines for India's athletics contingent, the nation has 15 athletes qualifying for the Summer games apart from the 4x400 mixed relay and Men's 4x400m relay team events.

While India’s biggest medal hopes at the Tokyo Games are pinned on PV Sindhu, India’s badminton contingent will see B Sai Praneeth contesting in the men’s singles event and the duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in the men’s doubles event.

India’s decorated daughter Mary Kom will lead a nine-member boxing contingent at the Olympics with the promising Amit Panghal and experienced Vikas Krishan having a great chance of winning a silverware.

While Fouaad Mirza became the first Indian equestrian to qualify for the Olympic Games in 20 years,  as he sealed a spot in Eventing, sabre fencer Bhavani Devi became the first-ever Indian fencer to make it to the Olympics.

India have three golfers qualifying for the Olympics. While Anirban Lahiri and Udayan Mane will compete in the men's event, Aditi Ashok will feature in the women's event.

With Dipa Karmakar unable to make the cut in Olympics this time, artistic gymnast Pranati Nayak remains the only Indian in gymnastics. She is also only the second Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympic Games. Like Nayak, India’s sole competitor in Judo will be Sushila Devi Likmabam in women's extra-lightweight (48kg) division

India’s most successful event at the Olympics, the hockey men’s team will be led by Manpreet Singh while Rani Rampal will captain the women’s side.

In rowing, India have two athletes Arjun Jat and Arvind Singh qualifying in the men’s lightweight double sculls event. Nethra Kumanan will lead India’s charge in sailing’s Laser Radial event. Apart from her, Vishnu Saravanan has qualified in the Laser Standard event, while KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar will be competing in the 49er.

India will pin their biggest medal hope on the shooting contingent. Veterans Apurvi Chandela and Anjum Moudgil will lead a 15-member strong Indian shooting contingent to the Olympics Games.

India are sending four paddlers to the Tokyo Games, with veteran Sharath Kamal leading the table tennis contingent. The other three players are G Sathiyan, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Manika Batra.

India’s challenge in tennis at the Olympic Games will be an only-women affair with only Sania Mirza making the cut. She has chosen Ankita Raina to be her partner in the women’s doubles event.
