End of the road for Tamil Thalaivas’ coach E. Bhaskaran

Edachery Bhaskaran's stepped down as Tamil Thalaivas coach after a string of poor results in the ongoing Pro Kabaddi League season. The veteran decided to leave after thorough contemplation and talks with the club owners.

Former India coach J. Udaya Kumar, who has guided India to Asian Games gold in 2002, 2006 and 2014, will take charge of the side for the remainder of the season.

Tamil Thalaivas endured a poor start to the seventh season and are currently placed in the bottom half of the table. Ajay Thakur’s captaincy has been ineffective as the team from Chennai hasn't managed a win in eight consecutive matches and also failed to register a single victory during its home leg.

“I wholeheartedly thank the Tamil Thalaivas management for their unflinching support.  I feel sorry that we’ve been letting the fans down,” Bhaskaran mentioned in an interview.

So my two session journey with Thamil Thalaivs came to an end as I resigne from the post of the chief coach of the Tamil Thalaivas. Sometimes things works in your favor and sometimes it won't..I have tried most honestly as a coach and put in the 28 years of my coching experience into the Thalaivas squad but unfortunately, we didn't get the results that we all had desired and that's how every sport is.... You win sometimes and you loose sometime. So I own the full moral responsibility for it and resign from the post. It was a great honour to coach a team that comes from the 'Home of Kabaddi' and a team which has 2 Arjuna Awardees and a Padma Shri player. Edachery, who took over the responsibility of leading Tamil Thalaivas to glory struggled to maintain equilibrium in the team as they finished bottom of their zone, winning just five games in season six.

Despite the presence of stalwarts such as Rahul Chaudhari, Mohit Chhillar and Ran Singh Rania, Tamil Thalaivas have continued to struggle in the ongoing season as well. Bhaskaran was often blamed for the lack of clarity as he failed to instil his players with an adequate game plan towards the end of the match.

Although the season is in its final stages, it will be interesting to witness the new coach Udaya Kumar’s tactics in play. But it might be too little, too late for the team from Chennai to save them for another disappointing Pro Kabaddi campaign.
