The group stage of the UEFA Champions League 2021-22 campaign kicks off on Tuesday as Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United travel to Switzerland to face Young Boys in Group F while Sevilla host Austrian football club RB Salzburg in Group G.
Defending champions Chelsea will begin their UCL campaign against Russian side Zenit in Group H at the Stamford Bridge in the early hours of Wednesday.
The biggest clash of the opening matchday will witness FC Barcelona lock horns with German champions Bayern Munich in Group E at Camp Nou. This will be Blaugrana’s first meeting with Bayern since their humiliating 2-8 defeat in last year’s quarter-finals.
In other matches on Wednesday, Juventus will take on Malmo in their Group H clash at Eleda Stadion in Sweden while Spanish side Villareal will host Italian club Atalanta in Group F.
Elsewhere, seven-time champions AC Milan will be in action against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the Anfield.
Since moving from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi is expected to feature alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for the first time against Club Brugge in Group A in the wee hours of Thursday.
Meanwhile, thirteen-time winners Real Madrid will start their UCL 2021-22 campaign against Italian champions Inter Milan at San Siro.
