The 2018/19 Premier League season was as nearly contested as a competition can be. Manchester City claimed the title for the second consecutive time, outsmarting Liverpool by a solitary point. Despite a lot of hard work and belief, there were some outstanding goals that left the crowds in utter frenzy.

Here we list the top five goals from the previous season of the Premier League.

Vincent Kompany (Manchester City vs Leicester City)

The title was on the line for Pep Guardiola’s men, who threw everything they had Leicester City’s way in the comfort of their home. However, Brandon Rogers’ Foxes were persistent and kept the Citizens at bay for much of the first and second half. The match seemed to be heading towards a nervy finish, until City captain Vincent Kompany decided to step in.

As he came within 30 yards of Leicester’s goal, he took the shot against the wishes of his yelling teammates. The Belgian striker found the back of Peter Schmeichel’s net and Kompany’s moment of magic took the Citizens to the finish line.

Eden Hazard (Chelsea vs West Ham United)

Another Belgian who scored a belter was ex-Chelsea player Eden Hazard. In his last season in the Premier League, Hazard’s form was at its zenith. He scored a scored a memorable goal that is surely expected to go down as one of the best that Stamford Bridge has ever witnessed. The midfield stalwart picked up the ball not too far from the half-line and went on a sensational solo run, leaving five Hammers players in his trail.

Andros Townsend (Manchester City vs Crystal Palace)

Crystal Palace’s winger Andros Townsend couldn’t have imagined that his most famous strike would come against a defence as sturdy as the champions of England. Manchester City lost a thrilling encounter against Crystal Palace 3-2, with Townsend firing a bullet strike at the top corner while the entire Etihad stadium watched in utter dismay. This lethal shot will be etched in the memories of the City fans longer than usual.

The game was full of jaw-dropping moments and Townsend’s strike was a perfect summation of the Eagles’ victory over the Citizens.

Fabian Schar (Newcastle United vs Burnley)

Newcastle United almost escaped relegation thanks in part to Fabian Schär’s consistency in the defence. Schär was brilliant throughout the season but will always be remembered for his lighting strike against Burnley. He received the ball in the opposition half with no opposition player to block out his shot. The Swiss international decided to try his luck, hitting a once-in-a-lifetime shot that left Claret’s goalkeeper Tom Heaton helpless.

Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea vs Liverpool)

Liverpool enjoyed some memorable instances throughout their campaign in the Premier League but Daniel Sturridge’s sublime goal against his former club Chelsea doesn’t necessarily come to mind. It holds a special place for the Reds’ fans as Jürgen Klopp’s men were heading for a defeat in that game until Sturridge produced a moment of magic to beat Kepa Arrizabalaga from 25 yards out.
