Former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel has been appointed the new manager of the Chelsea Football Club after the London club sacked Frank Lampard on Monday after 18 months at the helm.

Under the tutelage of Lampard, the Blues were below-par in the Premier League this season as they are currently languishing at ninth in the points table. Chelsea have registered just eight wins in 19 games, losing six and drawing five in PL 2020-21.

The new manager Tuchel will be expected to secure a place in the top four come May as Chelsea are six points off of the fourth place.

Here’s what Thomas Tuchel will bring to Chelsea:

Impressive win percentage

The 47-year-old German was only recently relieved of his duties by the notoriously demanding Qatari-owned club Paris Saint-Germain after Tuchel had won back-to-back Ligue 1 titles and three domestic cups in his two-and-a-half-year stint with PSG. He also took PSG to their first-ever UEFA Champions League final in August last year, losing to Bayern Munich. Tuchel left PSG with a record of 95 wins, 13 draws, and 19 defeats in 127 games, with the best win percentage in Ligue 1 history (74.80%) and the highest average of points per game (2.37, tied with his predecessor Unai Emery).

Tuchel also successfully managed Borussia Dortmund after replacing Jurgen Klopp at the helm. During his tenure, Dortmund won their first trophy in five years, defeating Eintracht Frankfurt  2–1 to claim the 2016-17 DFB-Pokal. Tuchel departed Dortmund with a record of 68 wins, 23 draws, and 17 defeats in 108 games, with a win percentage of 62.96%.

Getting the best out of Werner and Havertz

Thomas Tuchel is expected to bring the best out of his compatriots Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, who have struggled to replicate their Bundesliga form in the Premier League. Chelsea's two biggest summer purchases have failed to live up to their expectations under Lampard as they have both struggled to fully adapt to their new surroundings in west London.

Interestingly, while Werner has failed to score in his last nine league matches, Havertz has been pushed out of his position. Chelsea will hope that a German reunion will help the duo blossom under Tuchel. The new manager will also be reunited with his former PSG captain Thiago Silva, a player Tuchel was frustrated at being sold by PSG in the summer.

Tuchel's tactical knowledge and playing style

Revered for his tactical knowledge and style of play, Tuchel will be expected to win matches for Chelsea with his smart vision on the field. While the Blues have aspired to play an attractive brand of football, their best spells of success have come under tactical geniuses in Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte

Chelsea fans will hope that Tuchel will also use his tactical masterclass to help the Blues win trophies in the years to come. Meanwhile, Chelsea will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
