The Golden Boot race at the FIFA World Cup 2022 has heated up in Qatar. The best footballers across the globe along with legends like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are a part of the mercurial event.

Among the current players, only Thomas Muller in 2010 and Harry Kane in 2018 have previously won the Golden Boot, which is awarded to the top goal-scorer of every edition. While Muller smashed five goals in South Africa, Kane scored six in Russia. No player has ever won the Golden Boot twice.

Meanwhile, German legend Miroslav Klose has scored the most goals in the FIFA World Cup with 16 strikes. Fellow German Thomas Muller leads the list of active players with 10 goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the leading international goal-scorer, converted a spotkick against Ghana in Portugal’s opening match of the season to become the only men’s player to score in five consecutive FIFA World Cups.

Ecuador’s Enner Valencia netted two goals in the tournament opener against Qatar to kick off the race for the top goal-scorer of this edition. Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, team-mates at Paris Saint-Germain, are in the running for the Golden Boot at the FIFA World Cup 2022 along with Olivier Giroud, who became France's leading goal-scorer in all competitions when he netted a brace against Poland earlier in the tournament.
