Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has admitted that a loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League would straightly bring his job on the line.

City, who sit 22 points below Premier League leaders Liverpool, are expected to go all out for the Champions League this season and face Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid in the Round of 16 of the competition. As for Guardiola, the Catalan is chasing his first European crown in nine years, and speaking about the game, he underlined the importance by saying if his team fails to beat the record Champions League winners, he will have a long list of questions to answer.

"I want to win the Champions League, I dream and will enjoy the games against Real Madrid, to see what I can do," the former Bayern Munich boss told Football Daily.

"And this process, the two weeks before, will be the happiest moments of my profession, to imagine what we can do to beat them.

"If we don't beat them, then the chairman will come, or the sporting director, and say 'It's not good enough, we want the Champions League, I'm going to sack you.'

"Then 'OK, thank you, it was a pleasure.'"

City sacking Guardiola remains an extremely unlikely affair given the success he has brought since joining the team in 2016. In his four years of tenure, the 49-year-old has won two back to back Premier Leagues, one League Cup and one FA Cup.

Given the circumstances City are in right now, the dream of lifting the third consecutive Premier League honour remains nothing but a lucid dream. The team has lost as many as six games this season, which is equal to the previous two combined.

Despite his league success though, Guardiola has failed to culminate the same form in the Champions League, with his best finish being the quarter-finalists.
