Mohun Bagan Super Giant, reigning champions of the Indian Super League (ISL), are set to face Maldives' Maziya Sports and Recreation Club in their final Group D match of the AFC Cup 2023-24 at Maldives National Football Stadium on Monday, December 11. The match will start at 3:30 PM IST.
Under the guidance of head coach Juan Ferrando, Mohun Bagan made an impressive start to their AFC Cup journey but have stumbled in their last three group games, winning none including back-to-back losses.
Their below-par recent run in AFC Cup 2023-24 has put them third in the group standings with two wins, one draw, and two losses.
Qualification for the next round is now beyond possibility for the Mariners with Odisha FC and Bashundhara Kings - the two teams above them in the group - squaring off in their final Group D encounter for a spot in the next round.

They beat Bangladesh's Bashundhara Kings 3-1 in their AFC Cup 2023-24 campaign opener but have lost all their matches in the competition since and are rooted at the bottom of their group with three points after a solitary win and for losses.
In their head-to-head encounters in the AFC Cup, Mohun Bagan and Maziya have clashed seven times, with Mohun Bagan winning four times, Maziya securing two victories, and one match ending in a draw. Mohun Bagan beat Maziya 2-1 in their reverse AFC Cup 2023-24 fixture.
Even though there’s not much for both teams to play for on paper, they will be eager to end their AFC Cup 2023-24 campaign on a high with a win.
