After securing a 2-0 win against rivals Bengaluru FC, ATK Mohun Bagan will face Maziya Sports & Recreation Club of the Maldives in their second Group D match of AFC Cup 2021 at the National Stadium in Male, Maldives on Saturday, August 21.
The Mariners rode goals from talisman Roy Krishna and experienced defender Subhasish Bose to beat the Blues 2-0 in their AFC Cup 2021 opener on Wednesday.
ATK Mohun Bagan handed debuts to their star summer recruits Amrinder Singh, Hugo Boumous and Deepak Tangri while other new signings Liston Colaco, Bidyananda Singh, Ashutosh Mehta, Ricky John Shabong, Abhishek Suryavanshi and Kiyan Nassiri were left on the bench.
Under the tutelage of manager Antonio López Habas, ATK Mohun Bagan broke the deadlock in the 39th minute courtesy a fine finish by Fiji international Roy Krishna. The Mariners doubled their lead after Subhasish Bose found the back of the net soon after the restart.
While Sunil Chhetri-led Bengaluru FC dominated possession in the latter stages of the match, ATK Mohun Bagan soaked up the pressure as they kept a clean sheet and bagged three points.
Meanwhile, Maziya Sports & Recreation Club suffered a 0-2 loss against Bangladesh champions Bashundhara Kings in their opening Group D clash on Wednesday.
Coached by Risto Vidaković, hosts Maziya will look to pull off a massive upset against Indian Super League (ISL) giants ATK Mohun Bagan and stay in contention for the inter-zone semi-finals.
