Manchester United will kickstart their Carabao Cup 2023-24 campaign with a third round clash against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Wednesday (Indian Standard Time). The match is set to begin at 12:30 AM IST.
United are the defending champions of the Carabao Cup after beating Newcastle United in the final of the competition last season.
Manchester United have won the Carabao Cup or English League Cup on six occasions and will be hoping to put on a successful title defence.
The Red Devils haven’t had the best of starts to the 2023-24 season having lost four and won three of their seven matches in all competitions so far.
However, they did register a 1-0 win against Premier League newboys Burnley in their last outing and will be hoping to kick on when they face Palace in their opening fixture of the 2023-24 Carabao Cup campaign.
United can be expected to rest some of their first-team stars and field a few of their squad players for the midweek clash against Palace. The likes of Mason Mount and Harry Maguire could make a return to the United team after being sidelined due to injury.
The Red Devils and Crystal Palace are set to square off over the weekend as well in a Premier League encounter.
Palace, meanwhile, will be hoping to pull off an upset over a United team that has plenty of injury concerns and haven’t been at their fluent best this season.
The London club also has injury concerns with star player Michael Olise on the treatment table. However, they are still capable of causing an upset and have players like Eberechi Eze, Jordan Ayew, and Odsonne Edouard, all of whom are capable of publishing opposition teams when on song.
Needless to say, the upcoming clash between these two Premier League rivals promises to be a close and exciting contest although United just about have the edge on paper while playing in front of their home fans.
