The England national football team is all set to return to action over the coming weekend as they prepare to travel to face Malta in their Group C UEFA European Championship qualifiers 2024.
The match will start at 12:15 AM IST on Saturday, June 17 at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium in Malta.
The Three Lions have made a good start to their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying campaign despite having some tricky opening fixtures.
They beat Italy 2-1 away from home in their first Group C game before following it up with a 2-0 triumph over Ukraine at home.
The two wins from two games see England occupy the top spot in the group with six points having scored four goals scored and conceded just once.
Ranked 5th in the FIFA rankings, England will undoubtedly be the overwhelming favourites to win their third consecutive Group C encounter by brushing aside a Malta team that’s ranked 168th in the world.
England, in fact, could easily blow away Malta with their strong attacking line that is made up of skipper Harry Kane with Bukayo Saka, and Marcus Rashford on the wings.
The Three Lions also have the uncapped Eberechi Eze and it will be interesting to see if he gets a chance to show his skills with the likes of Phil Foden and Jack Grealish unlikely to feature following their unrelenting celebrations after their club Manchester City completed the treble.
Malta, meanwhile, is rooted at the foot of Group C after a 0-2 loss to Italy and a 0-1 defeat against Luxembourg.
They are likely to adopt a defence-heavy approach to thwart England’s loaded attack. It worked for them against the likes of Italy and Luxembourg as they minimised the margin of defeat.
However, it will be difficult to do the same against England’s exceptional attack although playing in front of their home support is certain to spur Malta on.
As far as the head-to-head between these two countries goes, England and Malta have squared off five times and the Three Lions have won on all five occasions.
