Japan’s top-tier football league, the J1 League 2022 started on February 18, 2022, and will run until November 5, 2022.

The ongoing edition of J1 League will be played over nine months as 18 teams fight for the coveted title.

As per the format of Japan’s premier football league, 18 clubs compete in a double round-robin (home and away) format.

Kawasaki Frontale are the defending champions of J1 League, having finished last season with 92 points from 38 matches - 13 points ahead of second-placed Yokohama F. Marinos. The reigning champions have been the dominant side in the league for the last five years, having won the J1 League in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021.

Meanwhile, Kashima Antlers are the most successful club in the J1 League, having won the title eight times.

Former FC Barcelona stars Andres Iniesta, Bojan Krkic, Brazilian footballer Leandro Damiao and Japanese international Yoshinori Muto are some of the top footballers who are playing in the J1 League this season.

While Spanish superstar Iniesta, compatriot Krkic and Muto are playing for Vissel Kobe, Damiao is representing defending champions Kawasaki Frontale.
