Euro 2020 champions Italy will lock horns with Spain in the UEFA Nations League 2020-21 semi-final at the San Siro in the early hours of Thursday, October 7.

Under the tutelage of Roberto Mancini, the Italy national football team are currently on a 37-match unbeaten streak and they will look to extend their all-time record for the longest unbeaten run in international football.

Interestingly, Italy is hosting a senior men’s national team tournament for the first time since Italia ’90 and the Azzurri will eye their first title on home soil since winning the UEFA European Championship in Rome in 1968.

Ahead of the high-profile clash, Mancini has named his 23-man squad for the tournament. Italy will miss the services of injured Leonardo Spinazzola, Alessandro Florenzi, Andrea Belotti and Gaetano Castrovilli, who were part of the Euro 2020 winning squad.

On the other hand, the Spain national football team will be eying revenge after being eliminated by Italy in a Wembley penalty shoot-out in the recently concluded UEFA European Championship.

While Spain have shown noticeable improvement under Luis Enrique, La Roja suffered a massive blow as star midfielders Pedri and Marcos Llorente have been ruled out of the Nations League finals campaign.

Enrique also made a surprise selection as he called up 17-year-old Barcelona midfielder Gavi for the first time.

In the last 10 meetings between Italy and Spain, the former has secured three victories while the Spaniards have won four times. Three matches have ended in a stalemate.

The winner of Italy vs Spain encounter will face either reigning world champions France or Belgium in the UEFA Nations League 2020-21 final.
