The Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 will start on Thursday, September 21, with three-time runners-up Kerala Blasters FC hosting 2018-19 champions Bengaluru FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi.

As many as 12 teams will compete in the 10th edition of the Indian Super League.

Bengaluru FC, Chennaiyin FC, East Bengal FC, FC Goa, Hyderabad FC, Jamshedpur FC, Kerala Blasters FC, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Mumbai City FC, NorthEast United FC, Punjab FC and Odisha FC are the 12 teams that will take part in ISL 2023-24.

Reigning I-League champions Punjab FC became the first-ever club to get promoted to the Indian Super League.

Since the last edition of ISL, the Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) has introduced a new playoff format for India’s top-tier football league.

As per the ISL 2023-24 playoff format, the top two teams at the conclusion of the league phase will automatically qualify for the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, teams finishing between third and sixth spot will feature in a single-leg playoff to determine the remaining two finalists.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant (previously ATK Mohun Bagan) are the defending champions of the ISL, having pipped Mumbai City on penalties in the 2022-23 final.

Indian Super League (ISL) Playoff Format:

Eliminator 1: 3rd placed team vs 6th placed team
