Manchester United face Newcastle United in EFL Cup 2022-23 final - get schedule and where to watch in India

Manchester United, the five-time EFL Cup winners, will go up against Newcastle United in the EFL Cup 2022-23 final at the Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday, February 26, 2023.

Known as the Red Devils, Man United have shown impeccable offensive and defensive form in the EFL Cup this season. After their 4-2 win against Aston Villa in Round 3, Erik Ten Hag’s side has kept a clean sheet in the next four matches leading up to the final.

Man United beat Burnley, Charlton Athletic and Nottingham Forest in Round 4, the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, respectively. 

The Red Devils’ no.10 Marcus Rashford, who has scored 24 goals in all competitions this season, is the joint-top goal-scorer in the EFL Cup 2022-23 with five goals. With two assists, he also makes the top five of the most assists list in the competition this season.

Manchester United last won the EFL Cup in the 2016-17 season, when Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s brace and a Jesse Lingrad strike in the final helped them beat Southampton 3-2 at the Wembley Stadium. It was former manager Jose Mourinho’s first major trophy as the Man United boss.

Newcastle United, meanwhile, faced a tricky test against Southampton in the semi-finals this season. However, the Toon Army came through 3-1 on aggregate. Now managed by Eddie Howe, Newcastle’s impressive run in the competition includes wins against fellow Premier League teams in Crystal Palace, AFC Bournemouth and Leicester City along with the Saints win in the semis.

Newcastle United are yet to win the EFL Cup. However, they finished runners-up in the 1975-76 season after losing 1-2 to Manchester City in the final. 

Considering the form of both Manchester United and Newcastle United in the Premier League as well as the EFL Cup this season, it is expected to be a closely-fought final at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
