East Bengal FC will lock horns with arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the Durand Cup 2023 final at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. The East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan Durand Cup 2023 final will start at 4:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
Under newly-appointed manager Carles Cuadrat, East Bengal booked their place in the Durand Cup 2023 final after beating NorthEast United FC on penalties in their semi-final clash. Earlier, East Bengal came from 0-2 down and produced a stunning comeback to hold NorthEast United 2-2 in regulation time.
The Red and Gold outfit has been impressive in the ongoing Durand Cup, having topped Group A with seven points from three matches. While they started their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Bangladesh Army FC, East Bengal pipped Mohun Bagan (1-0) in the Kolkata derby and later edged Punjab FC (1-0) to storm into the quarter-finals.
Carles Cuadrat men later beat Gokulam Kerala FC 2-1 in their quarter-final encounter.
On the other hand, Mohun Bagan Super Giant defeated FC Goa 2-1 in the second semi-final to storm into the Durand Cup 2023 final.
Led by manager Juan Ferrando, Mohun Bagan SG earlier overcame Mumbai City FC 3-1 in their quarter-finals.
Having been placed in the same group as East Bengal, Mohun Bagan finished second in Group A with six points from three matches.
East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are the most successful teams in Durand Cup history. Both teams have won 16 titles each. They will eye a record 17th on Sunday.
