Two-time champions Chennaiyin FC will take on arch-rivals Bengaluru FC in their third match of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21 season at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim, Goa on Friday.

Csaba Laszlo-led Chennaiyin FC had defeated Jamshedpur FC 2-1 in their opening game of the ISL 2020-21 season. However, the Marina Machans endured a goalless draw against Kerala Blasters, a match in which they were forced to split points despite clearly being the better side. 

On the other hand, ISL 5 champions Bengaluru FC will look to secure their first win of the season, after registering two consecutive draws against FC Goa (2-2) and Hyderabad FC (0-0).

The Blues’ attacking trio of Sunil Chhetri, Cleiton Silva, and Kristian Opseth have failed to fire so far.

This fixture has always been played with high intensity, passion and emotion with two sets of supporters usually adding to the rivalry. 

In the Chennaiyin FC vs Bengaluru FC head-to-head battle, both teams have won three games apiece with one draw being played out in ISL 2019-20 season.

In their seven encounters, Carles Cuadrat’s men have scored 11 goals against Chennaiyin while the Marina Machans have recorded eight goals to their name.

Meanwhile, Chennaiyin FC have had their best defensive start in ISL 2020-21, conceding just one goal in two matches. On the other hand, Bengaluru FC have conceded two goals in two encounters, with both goals coming from open play.

The Blues have attempted just 12 shots in two matches, the least by any team in ISL 2020-21. Chennaiyin FC, on their part, have recorded the second-worst pass accuracy of 60.79 per cent in the ongoing edition of the league.
