ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC square off in their AFC Cup Group D clash at the National Stadium in Male on August 18.

The Blues qualified for the group stage of the AFC Cup after beating Club Eagles 1-0 on Sunday.

Jayesh Rane found the back of the net in the first half to put Bengaluru FC in the lead and the Blues defended resolutely for the remainder of the game to make it to the group stage.

The win meant they joined fellow Indian outfit ATK Mohun Bagan in Group D and both sides will open their AFC Cup group stage campaign by squaring off on Wednesday.

The other teams in Group D besides Bengaluru and ATK Mohun Bagan are Bangladesh’s Bashundhara Kings and Maldives’ Maziya S&RC. The group stage matches will run from August 18 to 24.

Bengaluru FC are coached by Marco Pezzaiuoli with Naushad Moosa serving as assistant coach while ATK Mohun Bagan will be led by two-time Indian Super League winner Antonio Habas.

The Kolkata-based club will miss the services of Finnish midfielder Joni Kauko, who returned home to join his national side for the pre-World Cup matches.

However, they still have an exciting foreign contingent in the form of striker Roy Krishna, Carl McHugh, David Williams and new signing Hugo Boumous, who starred in Mumbai City’s ISL title triumph in 2020-21.
