The Indian women’s football team will face Chinese Taipei in their second Group A match of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, January 23. The match will begin from 7:30 PM IST.
Although Chinese Taipei (39) is ranked higher than India (55) in the official FIFA rankings, they are currently placed fourth in Group A after succumbing to a 0-4 defeat at the hands of China in their group opener.
India, on the other hand, are in second position in the Group A points table after playing a 0-0 draw against Iran in their tournament opener. The Blue Tigresses will be eager to get a win on Sunday, though, after heroics in goal from the Iranian custodian forced them to a gritty draw.
They will be hoping that the likes of Manisha Kalyan and Idumathi Kathiresan can help them overcome Chinese Taipei to register their first win in the tournament. At the back, skipper Loitongbam Ashalata Devi will be entrusted to keep things tight and needless to say, the experienced defender will be keen to reproduce her opening match display after a solid outing.
Chinese Taipei, on their part, will have their work cut out and will be low on confidence after a 0-4 hammering by China. They will need to be more resolute in defence against India if they are hoping to take some points from the game.
The last time Chinese Taipei and India met was on an exposure tour in October 2021 at the Hamad Town Stadium in Bahrain. India had won the contest 1-0 after a third-minute goal from Renu.
