Man United pause Mbeumo deal after Brentford push for £70m
Manchester United have put their move for Bryan Mbeumo on hold after Brentford raised their asking price to £70 million. United offered £65 million and expected to complete the deal soon, but Brentford changed their stance late in the talks.
Mbeumo made it clear he wants to join United. Club bosses Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Jason Wilcox believed the deal was close, but now refuse to overspend. They're waiting to sell or loan out players first to raise funds. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Tyrell Malacia are all available.
Brentford feel confident as they hold a one-year extension on Mbeumo’s contract. United, meanwhile, plan to wait and see if the deal becomes more affordable.
In another move, Brentford tried to sign Ipswich forward Omari Hutchinson but failed to meet his £35 million release clause. Ipswich rejected their offer, which was spread across instalments.
