LAFC beats Club America 2-1 at the Club World Cup
Los Angeles FC secured a spot in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with a late 2-1 win over Club America. The high-stakes play-off took place at LAFC’s BMO Stadium and went to extra time after a 1-1 draw in regular play.
Club America took the lead in the 64th minute. Brian Rodriguez, a former LAFC player, scored from the spot after a foul by Mark Delgado. LAFC struck back late. In the 89th minute, Igor Jesus scored with a strong header, his first goal for the club.
The match stayed tied deep into extra time. Just when it seemed like it would go to a shootout, Denis Bouanga scored the winner in the 115th minute. The goal came from a smart play set up by Olivier Giroud, who came off the bench in the 74th minute. With this win, LAFC now moves to Group D of the Club World Cup.
