Star defender Jonny Evans has officially retired from football after a career that spanned 19 years and over 500 club appearances. He ends his journey on the pitch and takes on a new role behind the scenes as Manchester United’s Head of Loan and Pathways.

In his new job, Evans will work closely with director of football Jason Wilcox alongside the club’s academy director. His focus is aimed at helping young players grow through well-planned loan moves. ‘I am looking forward to working with the next generation of talented players to support them to reach their potential,’ he noted.

Evans shared his feelings about this new milestone, saying that he’s retiring with ‘pride, gratitude, and excitement for the next chapter ahead.’ He thanked everyone who shaped his journey, from staff to players and his fans.

Evans’ football legacy

Evans first joined Man Utd’s academy as a teen and went on to play 241 matches for the club between 2006 and 2025. With Man Utd, Evans won three Premier League titles, two League Cups, an FA Cup, and the 2008 Champions League trophy.

His return to the club last year marked a full-circle moment. Now, he begins a new chapter to help shape its future stars.
