West Bromwich Albion’s head coach, Tony Mowbray, was dismissed after losing a home game 3-1 against Derby County on April 21, 2025. This loss means the team will have a low chance of reaching the Championship playoffs.

Alongside him was his assistant, Mark Venus, who also left the team after the head coach’s termination. Former Albion midfielder James Morrison will temporarily take over the team, and Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill will assist him.

‘The club would like to place on record its thanks to Tony and Mark for their efforts – but has made the decision to part company following a series of poor results,’ Albion said in a short statement.

‘Tony and Mark will forever be welcome at The Hawthorns and their contributions to the club winning the 2007-08 Championship title will never be forgotten,’ they added.

Mowbray became manager of the Baggies in 2006, but after three years, Celtic hired him as they had a managerial vacancy. Mowbray was reinstated as West Bromwich Albion’s head coach in January 2025 under a two-and-a-half-year contract with the team.

During his recent time with the Baggies, he only led the team to five wins out of 18 games. The poor performance led the management to dismiss the head coach.
