Kerala will host West Bengal in Santosh Trophy 2021-22 final at the Payyanad Stadium in Manjeri, Kerala on Monday, May 2. The match will kick off at 8:30 PM IST.
Led by captain Jijo Joseph, Kerala thrashed Karnataka 7-3 in their semi-final encounter to book their place in the summit clash. Young attacker Jesin TK who came off the bench for Kerala, netted five goals including a 10-minute hat-trick to help his team reach the final of the 75th edition of the Santosh Trophy.
In the other semi-final, West Bengal defeated Manipur 3-0 to storm into the Santosh Trophy final for the 46th time since the inception of the tournament in 1941.
Sujit Singh, Fardin Ali Molla and Dilip Oran scored a goal each to help West Bengal secure a convincing victory against Manipur. Meanwhile, West Bengal goalkeeper Priyant Singh also produced some superb saves to be adjudged the man of the match.
West Bengal are the most successful team in the Santosh Trophy history, having won the title 32 times. Kerala have claimed the trophy on six occasions.
Services are the defending champions of Santosh Trophy, having beaten Punjab 1-0 in the final of the 2018-19 edition. The previous edition of the tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Kerala vs West Bengal head-to-head record in Santosh Trophy
Kerala have dominated West Bengal in the Santosh Trophy, having won all the three matches that they have played so far.
Earlier in the ongoing Santosh Trophy, Kerala defeated West Bengal 2-0 in their Group A encounter.
Kerala also beat West Bengal on penalties in the 2017-18 edition final to clinch the Santosh Trophy title.
